After 13 colourful, purpose-fuelled years, YEVU Clothing is hitting pause and closing shop (for now…)
But don’t worry — this is a really good thing.
In fact, it’s the ending we planned from the beginning (it just took us a little longer to get here than we thought 😊).
From day one, YEVU wasn’t just about making clothes — it was about making change. We set out to create fair, safe jobs for women in Ghana. And it worked.
Today, the YEVU Foundation in Ghana is standing strong — a locally owned, independent, financially sustainable manufacturing hub in Accra. They’re producing for global brands, employing a full team, and thriving on their own.
That’s the dream, realised. A fully fledged social enterprise that took over a decade to build, together with the most incredible local leadership team, equipped to self determine their future and continue making impact.
The journey has not been without its challenges - there have been floods, theft, corruption, a global pandemic, economic recession, hyper inflation. We have moved factories 4 times, rebuilt time and again, navigated months of no power, dodgy landlords, and interesting Ghanaian architecture.
But the good has far outweighed the bad. Here are just some of big highlights from the journey:
- 40+ full-time and fairly paid jobs created in Ghana
- 80% of the team are women — most are single mums
- 120 dependants supported (mostly children)
- 65,000+ pieces made by our Ghana team
- 200,000+ yards of wax print sourced from local vendors in Accra, mostly female owned
- 70+ Aussie legends at Avenue, our NDIS dispatch partner, helped send 40,000+ YEVU items to 25 countries since 2019
- $0 in grant funding — 100% self-funded through trade
So with these incredible achievements under the belt — we’re winding things down, to reset, reflect, close this chapter and consider whats next.
And before we go, we’re clearing the shelves, and selling everything. You may have noticed :)
