YEVU Foundation Independent and Thriving - A Journey to Impact

YEVU Foundation Independent and Thriving - A Journey to Impact

Early last year, I sat in a small air-conditioned room in central Accra with the amazing YEVU leadership team. Over the course of a week, we mapped out the strategy and roadmap for something big — the conscious uncoupling of YEVU Clothing and the YEVU Foundation.

Why is this such a big deal? Let me tell you.

13 years ago, when this business came to life, it wasn’t about clothes. It was about creating a safe, supportive and dignified place of work for women in Ghana — many of them single mums — who needed sustainable jobs to support their families. YEVU Clothing was the means to that end.

We made clothes to make change. And it worked.

Today, the YEVU Foundation is standing on its own two feet. Offering ethical manufacturing services to brands and businesses. Generating its own revenue. Managing costs. Driving growth. Locally owned. Locally led.

And already, in just the first 3 months of 2025:

👉 Worked with 6 international brands including @oseiduro (pictured)
👉 Produced almost 2,500 units of clothing
👉 Provided employment and income to 27 staff and a community of artisan print makers
👉 Hosted visits from brands like @poplinproject and @appetitefordecoration (pictured)
👉 Showcased at Global Fashion Week (part of the African Fashion Festival)
👉 Secured a $40K grant from the Australian High Commission to deliver accessible, sustainable menstrual health solutions for women and girls

This is a huge milestone. And it’s just the beginning.

There’ll be some big changes for YEVU Clothing this year too, as we explore our role in this next chapter. In the meantime, I’ll be continuing to support and advise the Foundation as they find their feet.
